Volleyball

New league is working well, great competition, some sites are a little farther than what we are used too.

Fines currently for coaches not entering information and coaches not entering scores by Sunday night, we will look at making this more efficient for the league.

Carl will ask if we can have a grace period for the fines, a lot of schools in this same situation.

Do we need to create a line item for new league fines, Kim to look at

Playoffs will be at the schools but championships will be at the high schools.

Basketball

Looking at tryouts in early November after VB and Football are done.

New league rule - no basketball until November 1

Girls cannot do the Hodgkins tournament because of this rule, Carl asked league for parents

Games are in the 1st week of December.

New league has an A team for the 5th grade boys and girls.

Planning for three 5th grade girls teams, two at 6th, 7th, 8th.

Planning for two 5th grade boys teams, three at 6th, 7th, 8th.

Cross Country

All going well, three meets done.

Getting ready for the second annual 3rd and 4th grade meet.

About 20 kids will be leaving for the sectional meet on Oct 10 because it is downtown at 3:15, this is a day when the school gets out at 1:00 which will help.

Can have tents for Cross Country, need different weights without sand. 40 lbs each x 4

Track and Field

Need to look for javelins and all other equipment which may have been sold in garage sale!

Football

All going well, program has 65 kids this year.

Varsity no wins, JV about 50/50, other teams have religious education kids which seem to make the teams better since they can be more selective in who plays.

Cheer

Planning a Homecoming, out of uniform day on Friday October 4.  Cheer will perform at the lunch periods, all sports can wear their uniform shirts.  Mrs. Bagdon cleared all with Mrs. Kennedy.

Planning for new uniforms, we will look at options.

Fundraising

Men’s Social still the Saturday before the Superbowl.

Spirit Wear strong and lots of sales for the fall. Open most of the year.

MPR needs cleaned - may need to purchase a new pad for the machine to clean it.

Maybe fundraise for a new Willy the Wildcat costume also.

Mark Monahan

Volleyball

  • Season is over, New league was good to work with, 5A won championship

  • 6 home and 6 away games

  • We didn’t get any fines, grace period of learning, in this new league we have to enter the scores when a game is finished, see if the two coaches agree before it is final

  • New handbook is being worked on to combine it with the TCC handbook, if there is question we use the TCC handbook during a game

  • The SPL complete merged into the TCC

Cross Country and Track and Field

  • Still part of the SPL

  • CC girls took 2nd place at Sectionals

  • Will look for the Track and Field equipment before season starts

Football

  • All going well, Monahan revived the program which has 65 kids this year.

  • Varsity has no wins, JV about 50/50, other teams have religious education kids which seem to make the teams better since they can be more selective in who plays.

  • JV made the semi-finals where they lost

  • Monahan thinks we have a good SJC program without as many wins because of good team spirit and it is a good teaching mechanism.  If we let YC kids play then more school kids would not play.

  • Dan Forrer will take over for Monahan’s coordinator position.

Cheer

  • Planning for new uniforms, we will look at options. Julie, Carl and Kim should look at the budget.  Need to give Renee a “per uniform” idea.

  • We have a school parent, Elizabeth Scumaci, who owns a cheer supply store.

  • School pep rally went well, lunchtime hosting was a good idea.

  • Board brought up the idea of having a few cheerleaders at the basketball games.

  • Kim should let Renee know when these games are.

Basketball

  • Tryouts have happened

  • Games are in the 1st week of December

Fundraising

  • Men’s Social is still the Saturday before the Superbowl. Nawrocki and Santilli in charge of this event.

  • Spirit Wear for the fall made $2000

  • Tom Cassidy presented options for Willy the Wildcat. We raised $500 for a new one.  The board thought the $500 ones were fine, Kim narrowed it down to three. Waiting for approval to order.

School Board Discussion

  • Mr. Calvert recommends combining the SJC and TCC handbooks

  • Implement policies in handbooks

  • SAB would like to meet to discuss revisions

  • SAB would like to see more parent meetings

  • SAB would like to discuss coach evaluations

  • Carl likes the SAB coming to the AAB meetings and being involved in what is going on, very open to any suggestions

  • Recommended to have the parents sign off that they have read the AA Handbook

  • Possible Player evaluations, but AAB including Cassidy recommended this is not adopted, players change a lot each year

  • Bagdon recommended attendance is looked at for team evaluations, not just skill based but behavioral based

  • Martin recommended that coach feedback can be more generalized and not too specific to make it more feasible

  • Page - like evaluating coaches in the sense that 1) did the payer have a good experience and 2) did the player learn something

  • A team vs B team discussions

  • Bagdon - coach evaluations have to be general because they are volunteers

  • Carl could use evaluation just to have a conversation with the coaches but all evaluations would be confidential

  • Andrew Wilson also liked the idea that evaluations are confidential

AAB Meeting April 16, 2025

Attending:

Dan Forrer

Janet Ziarno

Minutes from the November meeting were approved.

New Wildcat was voted on by K-8, the new one chosen will be ordered.  It looks a lot like the one we have - FYI.

Volleyball

Tryouts for next year will be May 19 and 20

Save the date for tryouts will go out on Tuesday, April 22

Then Registration will go out

Then Volleyball tryout information will go out

Teams will not be announced until August - this should be and will be communicated, Kim will make sure to add to information

Per Carl - League of 32 schools will vote on libero for next year, if it passes, we will need libero jerseys.  This will be an added expense.

Prayer will be added to the games.  Julie is working on and posters will hang in the gym and MPR for home volleyball and basketball games.

Cassidy - asked about the red/blue/white divisions

Carl - league will look at data and place teams, but the AD can petition to have them moved.

Vote by league will also happen, the league wants to do and A, B, and C. Carl will vote no - wants only an A and B leagues.  Board and Carl all decided that a C league or team would not benefit SJC.

This league meeting is May 14 for Carl to attend.

Schools can petition to move A, B, C

Track and Field

Janet said first meet went well, lots of ribbons

Equipment is set now that new hurdles have arrived and been put together, lot of runners participating in hurdles.

May 3 Meet, we are co-hosting with SIJ, insurance costs are higher, and the league wants SJC to have insurance for one million dollars.

Cheer

Mrs. Scumaci, parent of current 1st grader will cover the cost above what SJC will contribute.  SJC to contribute $100 per uniform.

Picture distributed by Kim to board members

JV coaches really want at the same time as V, can we order both levels at the same time?

Scumaci said she can add even 1 uniform at a time and can guarantee the same style in years to come.

Box of sample sizes arrived, Kim and Renee will have some girls try for size.

There are 139 girls total in grades 5-8, last year there were 60 cheerleaders.

Bows are also on discount with uniform purchase, 80 are free, SJC paid $540 ($27 each) for 20 more.  These will be sold to cheerleaders to help offset the uniform price.

Could add “Approximate size” to registration - did not happen for 2025-26

Production time is 10 weeks for new uniforms.

Renee asked Kim about putting the bow onto the registration form, then it could be paid for, didn’t add to registration.

Football

Dan Forrer is trying to get home games at LT field.  LT is cheaper than Naz and Montini, LT is more open than in the past.  SJC would still owe LT a rental fee.  Right now home games are at St. Laurence and are $0.

Fundraising

Men’s Social raised $13,760.88 which included a men’s paddleball tournament ($3500).

For SJC to have football, there is supposed to be a fundraising total of $20,000.

Survey

Board reviewed the End of Season Survey for participants and End of Season survey for basketball coaches.

Board Approved

Only Carl and Julie will have access to the survey responses.

Carl will follow up with coaches if necessary

Janet showed an Excel spreadsheet if needed.

Carl considered sending roster but did a google form to the coaches instead.

Basketball

Carl verbalized how tryouts are done.

Janet recommended A and B but no C

League wants C teams from big schools.

Carl likes less members on a team if possible - this increases playing time.

The board approved raising the cost of Cheer, Volleyball and Basketball if a current family is not registered by the June 3 deadline.
